budget.jpgDistrict Residents Approve 2013-14 Budget

Residents of the Sweet Home Central School District approved the 2013-2014 district budget, Tuesday, May 21, by a vote of 591 “yes” to 260 “no”. Of the 851 voters, 69% voted to pass the budget.

Voters also approved Proposition No. 1 to spend $442,000 to purchase four (4) buses by a vote of 546 “yes” to 297 “no”.

The $68,166,393 budget represents an increase of 1.24% over the previous year.

Under this scenario, the average tax bill for an Amherst home assessed at $120,000 with STAR exemption would increase approximately $46 from the current year. The increase would translate to a total annual tax bill of approximately $1,349. A similar home in the Town of Tonawanda with the new town Equalization Rate of 47% would see a tax bill increase of approximately $46. The increase would translate to a total annual tax bill of $1,350.

In the school board election, Scott M. Johnson ran unopposed and received 695 votes. Mr. Johnson is elected to a five-year term that will expire on June 30, 2018.

Sweet Home residents have not defeated a budget since 1977, and before that since 1964.
