shield.jpgMay 28, 2009 - The District was notified today by the Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) that three more cases of Influenza A H1N1, otherwise known as swine flu have been confirmed within our District.  One case involves a student at Heritage Heights Elementary, one at Willow Ridge Elementary and the other involves a student at the Middle School. Following protocols established by the Erie County Health Department and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), each student will remain out of school for the recommended seven-day infectious period.

May 13, 2009 -- The attached letter to parents will be mailed home to all Sweet Home residents on Thursday, May 14, 2009. This letter was developed in conjunction with Dr. Anthony Billittier, Erie County Commissioner of Health. On Wednesday, the district was notified by health officials that another confirmed case of the H1N1 Swine flu involved a student at Willow Ridge Elementary School.

Health Advisory for the Swine Flu

The Centers for Disease Control, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services charged with protecting public health and safety, has issued recommendations for the prevention of Swine Flu.


1. Avoid close contact.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.


2. Stay home when you are sick.
If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness.


3. Cover your mouth and nose.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.


4. Clean your hands.
Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs.


5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.


6. Practice other good health habits.
Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
